How do you store dry ice?

Proper storage is crucial to both maximize the shelf life of dry ice and minimize safety risks.

What should you look out for when storing dry ice?

The best way to store dry ice is to keep it in a well-insulated container. Special dry ice containers or boxes that provide a high level of insulation help to slow down the rate of sublimation. It is important to use a container that is not airtight, as the resulting CO₂ gas must escape to prevent pressure build-up that could cause the container to burst.

Ideally, it should be stored in a cool, dry and well-ventilated room. Avoid storing dry ice in closed rooms or near heat sources, as this can significantly increase the sublimation rate. In addition, contact with sensitive surfaces or materials that can be damaged by extreme cold should be avoided.
