Dry ice is the solid-sublimated form of carbon dioxide (CO₂) that does not exist as a liquid under normal atmospheric pressure and temperature conditions. It is produced by cooling and pressurizing carbon dioxide gas, which is then squeezed out in the form of snow particles or blocks. Dry ice has a temperature of around -78.5 degrees Celsius and is used in various applications due to its unique properties.
One of the most remarkable properties of dry ice is its ability to change directly from a solid to a gaseous state at room temperature without becoming a liquid. This process is called sublimation and results in dry ice creating a “foggy” effect when it comes into contact with warm air. This makes it a popular effect agent in the event and film industry, where it is often used to create mystical fog scenes.

However, care must be taken when handling dry ice. Due to the extremely low temperatures, direct skin contact can lead to severe frostbite. It should also be stored in well-ventilated areas, as the gas produced during sublimation can generate dangerous concentrations of carbon dioxide in enclosed spaces.
