Dry ice floor mist

The use of dry ice, solid carbon dioxide, produces a special kind of ground mist. Dry ice has the ability to sublimate very quickly, i.e. it transforms directly from the solid state into gas without changing to a liquid phase. This sublimated gas is colder than the surrounding air. When dry ice is placed in warm water, the strong temperature difference ensures that the vapor that is created cools quickly and forms condensate. The result is an impressive fog bank that creates a dense, white cloud that spreads as quickly as it dissipates.

Impressive fog bank: the magic of dry ice in use

This technique is often used in event organization, concerts or theater performances to create a dramatic backdrop. The fog made of dry ice remains very close to the ground, creating a mysterious atmosphere without greatly impairing the view of the audience.
