Dry ice consists of solid carbon dioxide (CO₂) and sublimates at -78.5 degrees Celsius directly from the solid to the gaseous state without melting and forming a liquid. Dry ice is mainly used as a refrigerant as it has a very low temperature and cools the environment considerably when it changes to its gaseous state.
It is particularly suitable for cooling when a constant high degree of cold is required over a longer period of time. It is indispensable when transporting vaccines, biological samples or other temperature-sensitive products. It also plays a crucial role in the catering industry, for catering events or when shipping perishable goods. Dry ice is particularly suitable for keeping food chilled or transporting it. As it is colder than ice made from frozen water and changes directly into a gaseous state, the goods remain dry and are cooled effectively. In addition, the high degree of cold inhibits the growth of bacteria and thus extends the shelf life of the food.

The logistics of refrigerated goods is an extremely interesting topic. To ensure that the goods reach their destination safely, it is crucial to use dry ice correctly. Dry ice is available in various forms, such as blocks, slices, nuggets and pellets. The right choice plays an important role here. The right filling volume, weight, type of packaging and material such as cardboard or foam are also important. We will be happy to advise you and work with you to develop the optimum economical packaging that is precisely tailored to your requirements in terms of size, dry ice requirements and material.
Dry ice pellets with a diameter of 3 mm are usually used as a coolant or blasting medium for the dry ice blasting process. The Dry Ice Alliance also offers 4 mm pellets, which work particularly well with White Lion dry ice blasting machines. These are 33% larger than the 3 mm pellets and therefore ensure a higher cleaning performance when cleaning with the dry ice blasting process.
Dry ice nuggets are used exclusively for cooling purposes. The different diameters of the dry ice nuggets of 10, 12 and 16 mm lead to a different filling quantity in volume when the nuggets are used as “bulk material”. The smaller the dry ice granulate, the more finely it encloses and cools the goods to be cooled.
Dry ice slices are mainly used for cooling in airplane catering and in the logistics of fresh food. Bicycle couriers from discount stores for fresh produce particularly appreciate this form of cooling energy.
Blocks are used in international logistics in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries to ensure extremely low temperatures over long distances. Dry ice blocks are massive and can weigh up to approx. 2 kg. This makes them ideal as a coolant for delivering products by land, air and water. Products simply stay cool in any situation.
Our range of dry ice transport boxes offers an optimal and extremely flexible solution. It should be noted that the containers, regardless of their size, only exhibit the lowest sublimation when filled to capacity. It is therefore advisable to ensure that the correct quantity of dry ice is transported in the appropriate box. At Dry Ice Alliance, customers can choose between transport containers with a volume of 100, 300 and 500 liters, depending on their needs and specific application. Smaller quantities can also be shipped reliably with express shipping in 5 kg and 10 kg dry ice sizes. You can order these small quantities of dry ice directly and conveniently online on our website.
The Black Box is our lightest model. Weighing just 7.15 kilograms and made of food-safe EPP, it offers a capacity of 100 liters and first-class insulation. These features make it ideal for safe transportation.
Grey Box series complements our Black Box series. The Grey Box series comprises high-quality thermal boxes with a capacity of 300 and 500 liters. These boxes are ideal for the transportation of dry ice in various forms such as pellets, nuggets, blocks or slices. Thanks to their high-quality manufacturing process, they are perfect for the transportation and storage of dry ice. The boxes are made from a single piece of polyethylene and are characterized by their low K-value.
